Beating Heart

Today I went for the 12-week scan at a specialist's office, which is routine at this time. They do a blood test and ultrasound which can show some genetic abnormalities. Mainly, it was another excuse to get a peek at what is going on inside and see Baby B!
The baby is really moving around. The arms and legs were sticking out and visible on the screen. I could see the 2 parts of the brain and also the nasal cavity. Little fingers and toes are there, too! At this visit, I was also able to hear the baby's beating heart, which came in at 163 beats/minute. The technician said that is right on target. From all that she and I could see, things appear to be looking good! I was relieved because this weekend I experienced a little more spotting.
The results will be back in a week. I will come back to the specialist at 20 weeks and they said most women come to this appointment from Dr. Brown's already knowning the sex of the baby. Oh, I can't wait!
